1,000th execution carried out

Earlier today, North Carolina carried out the 1,000th execution in the U.S. since the death penalty was reinstated in the 1970s. [Read story.]

We know that some of them were innocent.

The next person to be wrongfully accused could be you.

  1. Amazing that the administration tries to say that such a policy helps save innocent lives, that the death penalty serves as a deterrent to crime. Studies show, however, that the deterrence issue is false. And earlier this week Air America's Rachel Maddow cited new evidence clearing someone -- and added that the info came too late. The person was executed several years ago. "Ah, well," death penalty advocates would say. But, we know that that won't do. As you say, "The next person to be wrongfully accused could be you."
