Losing your head in a "liberated" Afghanistan

George W. Bush keeps bragging about how we have liberated the people of Afghanistan from the evil Taliban.

I guess it depends on what your definition of the word "liberation" is.

As far as the Afghan civilians are concerned, "liberation" meant a fleeting hope for rescue from the repressive Taliban, which was quickly abandoned when an excuse could be invented to shift the focus to Iraq instead, turning Afghanistan back over to the warlords.

And "liberation" means a regrouped Taliban with a chip on its shoulder and some sharp knives.

From the Khaleej Times via Reuters:

Taleban insurgents beheaded three Afghans on Tuesday after accusing them of spying for US forces, a Taleban spokesman said.

The trio, aged between 30 and 35, were beheaded in Ghazni province southwest of the capital, Abdul Latif Hakimi told Reuters.

“The punishment is permissible in Islam and today’s beheadings should be a lesson for others who are involved in espionage activities for the Americans,” he added.

Of course, don't expect to see this story in the U.S. mainstream press.

  1. This is why our Founding Fathers didn't want women in politics.

  2. Yeah, that's the ticket. If you don't have what it takes to debate an issue on its own merits, just resort to bashing an entire gender and then chalk it up as a "victory", big man.
